Beat Bed Head!

My Favorite Hair Tip of All Time:

I know you've been looking for an excuse to pull your old 80's clothes out of the attic... so here ya go!

When you won't have time to re-wash and style in the a.m., grab a soft scrunchie and make a high ponytail on the top of your head... and when I say "high", I mean it! Pile all your hair up on your head just an inch or two from your forehead and set that alarm a little later because you will wake up with massive volume and no kinks... my idea of beauty sleep.

Foxy Fall Fishtail

Fishtails are super foxy this Fall! They are also a lot easier than they look! Here are some tips for creating the perfect fishtail look:

Step 1: Don't be afraid to use a lot of hairspray! The grittier the hair, the better this 2-strand braid will stay put.

Step 2: Backcomb the entire base of the hair. Do a little more at the crown for a messy, sexy, voluminous look.

Step 3: Bring all hair to one side and separate into two equal sections. Hold the two strands tightly while taking a small piece from the underneath part of one strand. Cross the small strand over to the opposite large strand and pull taut. Repeat this taking the smaller strand from the opposite side each time.

Tip: The tighter you pull each time, the better.

Step 4: As you reach ends of hair, secure tightly with a hair band.

Step 5: To sass-it-up a little, make it messy. Apply hairspray all over and pull at the braid to make it loose and uneven. The messier, the prettier!

Joke... from my mother :)

IMPORTANT SHAMPOO DISCOVERY!

Just discovered this important info below.
I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!!!!!
It's the shampoo I use in the shower!
When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and (duh!)
Printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning,

"FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY."

No WONDER I have been gaining weight!!!

I've gotten rid of that shampoo and I'm going to start using Dawn dish soap instead.

Its label reads,
"DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."
Problem solved!

If I don't answer the phone . . . I'll be in the shower!

Live Easy This Fall

Earthy Fall colors are so easy to wear and look great on everyone. Think of the crisp smell of Fall, colorful leaves, Thanksgiving dinner, and pumpkin spice lattes. Dress in those comfy heart-warming feelings and you will look and feel natural and beautiful. In this rare case... less work equals more style!

Try Jay's urban fall look. As for makeup, wear just the basics (face powder, light blush, mascara and some lip balm). Sleep with your hair in big loose braids then simply wake up and throw on some accessories. She stuffed most of her hair into a burnt-yellow knit hat from Urban Outfitters ($24), pulled some pieces out, braided an inch-wide piece of hair loosely, then let some of her long locks flow out naturally. She finished the look with brown and yellow dipped feather earrings from Nordstrom ($10). Yup, that's it... now you might actually have time to get that latte!

Dirty hair? Clean it up... With hair powder!

I try to wash my hair as little as possible; for a few reasons:
First, my hair is really thick and curly and takes way too much effort to blow dry. Second, it is good for your hair and scalp to get a little oily, and last but not least, dirty hair stays where you want it.

My favorite dirty hair product is Bumble and Bumble Hair powder. It erases any trace of oil, holds like hairspray, and comes in several colors to match your shade.
My hair could definitely use use a good shampoo and blowout today... But time is of the essence. Hair powder to the rescue!

Directions: Spray hair powder about 4 inches from hair where needed and style!

Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder

Pouf and Pony: one of my favorite dirty hair do's
Tricks and tips: buy colored hair powder and use it to touch up roots when you are overdue for a color appointment. Also, it's amazing for backcombing!

Faux-dashians

As a school project, my classmates and I participated in the Bumble and Bumble Challenge... we had to choose 3 looks and re-create each of them without removing any hair and make-up products between looks. We started with a blank face and product-free hair, then built up to each look. My group and I decided to turn me into Khloe, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian (pretty much my dream come true). I think it turned out pretty good... thanks to my stylists/classmates, Lauren Coil, Kelly Broeren, and Inna Mitchell.

Khloe

Faux-Khloe

First look: Khloe
To re-create this look: Apply Bumble and Bumble Leave-In Conditioner to ends of hair and De-Frizz throughout. Then dry straight using a flat brush section-by-section. Touch up with Brilliantine and a flat iron where necessary.
Then apply Benefit Luminescent Concealer lightly over face. We applied Bare Minerals eye shadow in B.F.F over entire eyelid and used Addiction black eyeliner to thinly line eyes. We finished the look with MAC Glam lipgloss.

Second look: Kim
To re-create this look: Generously apply Bumble and Bumble Prep through hair from base to ends then apply De-Frizz from base to mid-strand. Brush the top-half of hair into a ponytail in the middle of the crown using a Denman (flat) brush. Back-comb heavily and begin forming hair, constantly smooth with Grooming Cream and the Denman brush. Finish with Spray de Mode for shine and hold.
Apply Bare Mineral Warmth lightly on entire face, focusing more on cheek bones. Then, lightly brush Bare Minerals blush in Secret over cheeks. Apply MAC Black Tied eyeshadow heavily in the creases and outer corner of eyelid. Apply several layers of black mascara; we layered Maybeline Colossal Express and Falsies mascara. We completed Kim with Pretty Easy MAC lipstick.

Third Look: Kourtney Kardashian
To re-create this look: Take previous hair style out until you get beck to the original ponytail. Use Bumble and Bumble Prep to brush out ponytail. Apply Leave-In to parts that are heavily back-combed in order to make brushing easier. Smooth and separate 1-inch sections of hair using De-frizz. Fold and pin sections as seen in picture to create bun; apply Brilliantine and Spray de Mode as you section for hold and shine. If you don't have a widow's peak, make one with dark brown eyeshadow just like we did.

Using a kabuki brush, apply MAC Studio Fix (we used NW30) over entire face evenly. Darken eyebrows using Bare Minerals Brunette brow kit. We applied Addiction NV eyeliner heavily to top and bottom, getting thicker as you approach outside of eye. Use false eyelashes to get glamorous like Kourt, then carefully apply bright red lipstick.

From Scraggly to Smooth

If you lighten your hair, you have to keep it healthy with proper product use and frequent trims. If you have let it get to a point of no return... it is time to say goodbye to the damage. Yes, I am daring you to get a serious hair cut!

She was a little apprehensive at first...

Before Back
Before Side

But a slight A-line and some long layers did the trick!

After Back
After Side

Now, we just need to get her back in my chair for color!

Meet the Blogger

Thanks for checking out my Beauty Blog! I hope you enjoy all my glitzy, glamorous news, advice, fun facts, and tips! Just in case you want to know who all this is coming from, here is a little bit about me:
I am currently a cosmetology student living in Scottsdale, Arizona. I also graduated from The University of Arizona with a Journalism degree. I am from Illinois, but I love living in the desert. I am on a quest to put both my educational experiences together and become a beauty journalist. I love to keep up with trends and I dream of traveling the world and taking beauty tips from every culture.
I’m a Gemini, so I have a slightly split personality. I am sweet; but also sassy and sarcastic. I love good ol’ Mother Nature, but can’t live without my iphone. I’m addicted to exercise…and junk food.
In my world, it is so important to look amazing and help make other people gorgeous. Your appearance is something you can change whenever you want and it says so much about who you are. Yes, I know beauty is only skin deep. However, I think when you look and feel beautiful, everything else in your life improves... that is why this industry is so amazing!
